At Hollinger Dental Group, we will help you realign your bite and relieve symptoms that can be associated with temporomandibular disorder through our knowledgeable team of dental professionals.
TMD Treatment
Once you have been diagnosed with TMD, the treatment that is best suited for your needs can be determined. Common treatment will follow three steps:
1. Relieve muscle spasm and pain
The first concern is to relieve any symptoms you may have. A system of rhythmic pulses from the myotronics "Tens" machine will be used to relax the muscles of the jaw and neck.
2. Stabilize the bite
Over your teeth a temporary device called orthotic is worn. Adjustments are able to be made to the plastic without adjusting the teeth until the bite is stabilized and the jaw joint has healed.
3. Long-Term Management
After the orthotic has allowed for major relief and/or even resolved the problem, definitive treatment is able to start.
Treatment will depend on your particular condition and could include continued wear of the orthotic appliance, orthodontics, reconstruction of the teeth (veneers, crowns, bridges or implants), or a combination of these procedures to provide a long-term relief of your symptoms.
